Wimbledon: The Championships
The Championships, Wimbledon or simply Wimbledon, is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, and widely considered the most prestigious. It has been held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London since 1877. It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments (Majors), the others being the Australian Open, the French Open (Roland Garros) and the US Open. Since the Australian Open shifted to hard court in 1988, Wimbledon is the only Major still played on grass, the game’s original surface, which gave the game its original name of “lawn tennis”.
These photographs show a crowd of people every year go to see this event.
Everything is now ready to start today the 129th edition of the championship.
That’s a lot of people and loads of colour! Great shot 😃

Thank you Julie!!
It really is amazing how many people who come to the tournament. Now I understand how difficult it is to find a ticket to entry.

OK now I’m just jealous 😛
Attending all of the Grand Slams is on my bucket list. I’ve only done the US Open so far.
Great shots 🙂

Don’t be jealous Norm! I’ve not been in the US Open. I would also like to go to all the Grand Slams. Luckily I’ve already been to Wimbledon and would consider returning!

I am a fan of Rafael Nadal, but he is not ready to win this year. I think Djokovich is the favourite, with some chance to Murray. In the women tournament, Serena Williams is a winner…
Thanks for comment!!

I’m on Team Federer but as the years go on I understand that he hasn’t won as many as when he was in his prime. Which leads me to my second fave being the Djoker. Such a great sense of humour. And as for Serena Williams without a doubt will smash it out 🙂
